Director of Road Infrastructure Management

About the role

The Director of Road Infrastructure Management will provide strategic leadership for the Roads Infrastructure Management Directorate, overseeing the planning, development and maintenance of Durban’s road network and related infrastructure. The role involves steering policy development, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with statutory regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and direct the Roads Infrastructure Management Directorate.
• Lead the development and implementation of the strategic framework for infrastructure assets, risks and priorities.
• Oversee the formulation and review of municipal policies and by‑laws related to road networks, coastal engineering, stormwater drainage and catchment management.
• Manage contractual obligations in line with legal and statutory requirements.
• Control budgeting, expenditure and resource planning for the directorate.
• Direct performance, productivity and personnel outcomes within the directorate.
• Foster strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Administer reporting and monitoring of key performance and result indicators.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 8) in Built Environment or related field.
• Registration as a professional with the relevant professional body.
• Valid motor vehicle driving licence.
• Minimum 9 years of relevant experience in the built environment, including at least 5 years in senior management.
• Preferred: Postgraduate qualification (NQF Level 9) in Built Environment.
• Preferred: 10 years of relevant experience with at least 6 years in senior management.
