Director of Inclusive Education and Support

About the role

The Department of Education seeks a dynamic leader to serve as Director of the Inclusive Education Directorate. The role provides strategic leadership, overseeing the development, evaluation and maintenance of policies, programmes and systems that support inclusive education.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, evaluate and maintain policy, programmes and systems for ordinary learners, learners with special needs, and psychological, guidance and social support programmes.
• Design and implement systems to improve the efficiency and productivity of the Directorate.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including organised labour.
• Promote a culture of efficiency, quality and continuous improvement.
• Empower staff through performance management, coaching, development and skills transfer.

Required profile

• SAQA‑recognised Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF level 7) relevant to the field.
• Minimum five years of experience at a middle or senior managerial level.
• Knowledge of high‑level planning, management and government/departmental policies.
• In‑depth understanding of legislation related to the public service and education sector.
• Proven competence in participative management, organisational development, policy formulation, programme management and evaluation.
• Strong leadership, analytical, problem‑solving and financial management abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, report writing and networking skills.
• Willingness to travel, work beyond normal hours and maintain confidentiality.
• Valid driver’s licence and completion of the Public Service Senior Management Leadership Programme with the required pre‑entry certificate.
