Director: Public Examinations

About the role

The Director of Public Examinations leads the administration of provincial examinations, ensuring integrity, efficiency and compliance across all assessment activities.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the examination administration system, including certification and logistical services.
• Oversee IT and data management support systems for examinations.
• Coordinate development, editing and production of question papers across subjects.
• Supervise marking processes and ensure compliance with examination policies.
• Identify and resolve examination irregularities and manage risk and security services.
• Lead GET and FET school‑based assessments and liaise with districts and organised labour.

Required profile

• SAQA‑recognised Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF Level 7) in a relevant field.
• Minimum five years of middle or senior managerial experience.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Successful completion of the Public Service Senior Management Leadership Programme and possession of the NSG pre‑entry certificate.
