Automation Technician Intern – Ficksburg Free State and Lesotho

About the role

This internship offers hands‑on experience in automation and control systems within an industrial environment. Based in Bloemfontein, the intern will support projects at sites in Ficksburg and Lesotho, gaining exposure to PLC programming, electrical wiring, and maintenance activities.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with PLC programming, troubleshooting, and modifications using platforms such as Siemens, Allen‑Bradley, Schneider, Delta, or Omron.
• Support installation and commissioning of automation and control equipment.
• Perform electrical wiring and panel installations according to engineering drawings.
• Test, inspect, and maintain PLC‑controlled machinery.
• Help diagnose faults in electrical and automation systems.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and PLC logic.
• Participate in preventative maintenance of production equipment.
• Document maintenance and programming activities accurately.
• Contribute to continuous‑improvement and automation projects.

Required profile

• Trade Certificate, National Diploma, or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related field.
• Basic understanding of PLC programming concepts.
• Knowledge of electrical control systems and industrial instrumentation.
• Ability to read electrical diagrams and technical drawings.
• Good problem‑solving and communication skills.
• Valid RSA driver’s licence with own transport.
