Analytical Chemistry Intern

About the role

Join SGS as an Analytical Chemistry Intern and support the daily operations of a world‑leading testing laboratory. You will work hands‑on with received samples, perform analytical tests, and ensure data integrity while gaining exposure to international quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Log incoming samples into the SLIMS system using client work orders.
• Analyze samples according to validated procedures and methods.
• Print and apply sample labels, sort samples correctly, and prepare them for analysis.
• Report analytical results within defined time frames.
• Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation, recording repairs, calibrations, and verifications.
• Follow all departmental quality directives, health and safety rules, and ISO 17025 requirements.
• Assist with SANAS audit preparation and contribute to quality management system compliance.
• Support housekeeping, stock counts, and any additional tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated with a BSc, BTech or National Diploma in Chemistry, Analytical Science or a related field.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standard operating procedures.
• Willingness to report technical or managerial issues promptly.

Required skills

• Experience with SLIMS (Laboratory Information Management System).
• Proficiency in operating laboratory instrumentation.
• Knowledge of ISO 17025 quality management principles.
