Accounting Officer

About the role

The Accounting Officer will support the finance function of the Catherine Deane Group, handling bookkeeping and accounts tasks for the South Africa and China/Hong Kong operations. Reporting to the Finance Lead, the role ensures accurate financial records in Xero and serves as the primary contact for finance queries from the China and Hong Kong jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Process daily financial transactions in Xero using the Group’s chart of accounts and coding.
• Maintain petty cash, reconcile bank feeds, and prepare bank reconciliation statements.
• Match supplier invoices to purchase orders, reconcile creditors’ ledger, and prepare payment requests for Finance Lead approval.
• Reconcile debtor ledger, monitor overdue customer balances, and follow up on outstanding payments.
• Prepare correcting journal entries, debit/credit notes, and ensure audit‑ready supporting documentation.
• Escalate disputed invoices, payment issues, and exceptions to the Finance Lead.

Required profile

• Experience in bookkeeping and accounts payable/receivable within an international environment.
• Attention to detail and ability to maintain organized, audit‑ready records.
• Strong communication skills to liaise with China and Hong Kong operations.
• Understanding of control frameworks and ability to follow defined processes.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Xero accounting software.
