Accountant – Hybrid (Paarl, Western Cape)

About the role

Our client, a fintech company based in Paarl, is seeking a diligent Accountant to join their dynamic team. This hybrid position requires 2–3 days in the office each week and offers the chance to manage the full spectrum of day‑to‑day accounting activities.

Key responsibilities

• Accounts Receivable: Process monthly invoices on Xero, issue invoices for rentals, ad‑hoc sales and asset disposals, maintain aged receivables and chase outstanding debtors.
• Accounts Payable & Banking: Load payments onto Standard Bank Business Online, reconcile bank statements in Xero and compile Friday cash balances.
• Payroll Administration: Process payroll inputs and amendments in PaySpace, close payroll runs, post salary journals, submit EMP201 returns to SARS and liaise on retirement annuities.
• VAT Management: Capture VAT invoices accurately in Xero, analyse VAT reports and submit bi‑monthly VAT201 returns to SARS.
• Month‑End Accounting: Maintain the Fixed Asset Register, reconcile selected balance‑sheet accounts, handle month‑end journals, process loan interest and support the Finance Manager with management accounts and trial balance consolidation.

Required profile

• Matriculation; a diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field is advantageous.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar accounting role with strong knowledge of South African VAT and PAYE legislation.
• Ability to work independently, high trustworthiness and commercial awareness.
• Own reliable transport.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience using Xero accounting software.
• Experience with PaySpace or similar payroll software.
