Financial Controller / Accountant – FMCG (Hybrid, Johannesburg)

About the role

Our client, a global FMCG business operating in South Africa, seeks an experienced Financial Controller/Accountant to own the financial accounting and reporting function. This hands‑on role will ensure accurate, well‑supported financials and compliance as year‑end approaches, providing confidence to the business and its stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Provide assurance over the balance sheet, ensuring accounts are accurate, reconciled and fully supported.
• Review and improve financial processes, controls and documentation.
• Oversee statutory, tax and regulatory compliance, liaising with SARS and the Group tax team.
• Act as the primary finance contact for internal and external auditors.
• Review stock balances and financial information, identifying and addressing issues.
• Support accurate sales and revenue recognition and maintain cash‑flow visibility.
• Collaborate closely with the international finance team and local business stakeholders.

Required profile

• Relevant accounting qualification (CIMA or CA(SA) advantageous).
• Strong practical experience in financial accounting and reporting.
• Sound knowledge of IFRS, tax, statutory and regulatory requirements.
• Experience engaging with SARS and external auditors.
• Proven balance‑sheet and reconciliation expertise.
• Background in FMCG, manufacturing or other stock‑based environments preferred.
• Detail‑oriented, hands‑on approach with sound judgement and the confidence to challenge and improve processes.
