Manufacturing Engineering Director

About the role

We are seeking a senior Manufacturing Engineering Director to lead the Engineering, Maintenance and Toolroom functions of a world‑class manufacturing operation in Cape Town. Reporting to executive leadership, you will shape engineering strategy, drive continuous improvement and ensure the factory floor operates safely, efficiently and competitively.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Manufacturing Engineering function across machining, fabrication, assembly and production support.
• Maintain robust engineering governance, technical standards and master data (BOM, routings, documentation).
• Drive process optimisation, industrialisation, capacity improvement and manufacturing efficiency initiatives.
• Support new product introductions and align product engineering requirements with manufacturing capability.
• Develop and execute maintenance and reliability strategies, including preventive and predictive programmes.
• Improve asset reliability, lifecycle management and compliance with safety and statutory requirements.
• Provide leadership to the toolroom and machining teams, ensuring tooling capability meets production, quality and efficiency goals.

Required profile

• Senior engineering leader with extensive experience in manufacturing engineering, maintenance and toolroom management.
• Proven ability to shape engineering strategy, lead technical teams and engage directly with factory‑floor execution.
• Strong track record of delivering operational excellence, reliability and continuous improvement in a technical manufacturing environment.
