Fitters Manager

About the role

The Fitters Manager leads the Fitters team to ensure that all mechanical equipment, machinery and plant operate efficiently, safely and reliably. This senior role works in a fast‑paced, demanding environment, overseeing preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance while minimizing downtime.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and manage routine, planned and preventative maintenance programmes for all machinery and equipment.
• Monitor team quality and efficiency, reporting issues or improvements to the Engineering Manager or Directors.
• Conduct mechanical inspections on production machinery as required.
• Manage compliance with the company’s in‑house maintenance procedures and legal health & safety regulations.
• Assist with critical breakdowns, investigations and forecasting of equipment failures.
• Support employees with fault finding and diagnostics.
• Oversee servicing of mechanical components and maintain critical spare parts inventory.
• Liaise with suppliers to source quality parts and estimate repair costs and time.
• Lead workshop productivity, ensure safety checks, and manage attendance, time‑keeping and overtime distribution.
• Implement and track KPIs using the CMMS and collaborate with HR on staff concerns.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent.
• Qualified Mechanical Fitter with Red Seal Trade Test certificate or higher qualification.
• At least 10 years of experience in a similar heavy‑industry environment.
• Minimum 5 years of proven leadership or supervisory experience.
