Fleet Controller

About the role

Our client in the logistics sector is seeking an experienced Fleet Controller to manage vehicle dispatch, compliance and maintenance across the East Rand area. The role involves coordinating drivers, handling breakdowns and ensuring efficient deliveries while maintaining health and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Dispatch vehicles and drivers, ensuring clear instructions and successful deliveries.
• Enter all fleet activities accurately in the company’s fleet management software.
• Monitor statutory compliance for vehicles and drivers (Hazchem, licences, permits).
• Review daily driver pre‑check inspections, evaluate defects and report to the workshop.
• Track vehicle status via WhatsApp, email or telephone and manage fuel operations.
• Liaise with workshop and third‑party service providers to schedule maintenance.
• Receive breakdown calls and coordinate response with the workshop team.
• Answer fleet enquiries professionally and maintain health and safety at the workplace.
• Work rotating day and night shifts, handling pressure and long hours as required.
• Perform additional tasks as directed by the company.

Required profile

• Grade 12 qualification.
• 2‑5 years experience as a Fleet Controller or in a similar logistics role.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Ability to work under pressure, long hours and shift rotation.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Computer literacy and experience with fleet management software.
• Familiarity with Navis and port operations (advantageous).
• Experience with imports and exports (advantageous).
