Workshop Technician – Heavy Machinery Maintenance

About the role

Our client, a leading provider of container handling, material handling, and mining equipment services, is seeking a Workshop Technician to join their fast‑paced heavy‑machinery workshop in Johannesburg. You will play a key part in keeping critical equipment running smoothly and safely.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults on heavy equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance and routine servicing to maximise machine uptime.
• Use diagnostic tools to troubleshoot technical issues efficiently.
• Maintain workshop safety, cleanliness, and compliance with standards.
• Complete job cards, reports, and parts requisitions accurately and on time.

Required profile

• Trade Test Certificate (Diesel Mechanic, Mechanical Fitter, or equivalent) – essential.
• 3–5 years of experience in a heavy‑machinery or workshop environment.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulics, engines, and electrical systems.
• Experience with forklifts, reach stackers, or similar equipment is advantageous.
• Ability to work independently, troubleshoot under pressure, and meet quality and turnaround targets.
