About the role
The Wine Consultant provides expert advice and service to customers in the wine department, supporting both in‑store shoppers and external hospitality partners. The role combines product knowledge, sales targets, and stock management to enhance the overall wine offering.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver professional, friendly service and detailed product information to customers.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of wine varieties, history, food pairing, tasting notes, storage conditions, and serving temperatures.
- Achieve monthly wine sales budgets, margin growth, and promotional targets.
- Manage wine ordering, monitor barcoding and pricing accuracy, and report stock issues.
- Implement merchandising standards, ensure proper shelf layout, and rotate stock efficiently.
- Create and maintain a categorized email database of personal customers for specials and events.
- Liaise with vendor representatives, top traders, and wine club members to drive sales and resolve stock matters.
- Track customer spend, analyse purchasing trends, and provide insights to management.
- Monitor shrinkage levels and ensure they remain below set thresholds.
Required profile
- Strong knowledge of wine varieties, tasting techniques, and food‑wine pairing.
- Proven ability to meet sales targets and drive revenue growth.
- Excellent customer‑service orientation with clear communication skills.
- Experience in stock control, merchandising, and inventory rotation.
- Ability to maintain accurate customer databases and generate regular reports.
- Proactive liaison with vendors and internal teams to resolve issues.
