US Tax Accountant – Remote (South Africa)

About the role

Join a fast‑growing team as a US Tax Accountant, working remotely from South Africa. You will own multi‑entity and individual tax return preparation, provide clear planning guidance, and help clients stay compliant during the busiest season.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review entity returns (1065, 1120, 1120‑S) including K‑1s, capital accounts, basis calculations and §199A eligibility.
• Prepare individual 1040 returns with schedules A‑E, Form 4797, 6252, passive activity loss tracking and wash‑sale checks.
• Manage multi‑state and SALT apportionment, nexus updates, and composite/non‑resident filings.
• Identify and document tax credits, elections, R&D incentives, §179/bonus depreciation choices, and late election relief.
• Maintain fixed‑asset ledgers, Form 4562 schedules, and reconcile book versus tax depreciation.
• Build audit‑ready workpapers, handle e‑file submissions, extensions and respond to IRS/state notices.
• Coordinate intake, preparation, review, client Q&A and filing calendars to ensure timely delivery.

Required profile

• Detail‑oriented with the ability to balance depth and efficiency.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, able to explain complex tax concepts in plain language.
• Comfortable handling high‑volume busy seasons and maintaining SOPs, checklists and calendars.
• Enjoys mentoring junior staff and driving process improvements.

Required skills

• US federal and state tax preparation for entities and individuals.
• Knowledge of §199A, R&D credits, depreciation methods and multi‑state apportionment.
• Experience drafting audit‑ready workpapers and responding to tax notices.
