Unit Manager - Medical Ward

About the role

The Unit Manager will lead a specific nursing unit, such as a surgical ward, within Mediclinic. The role is responsible for delivering safe, high‑quality patient care while creating a positive experience for clients and ensuring the unit operates efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure safe patient care by meeting clinical quality standards and company policies.
• Identify, assess and mitigate clinical risks within the unit.
• Lead, coach and manage nursing staff to maintain high engagement and performance.
• Oversee operational and capital expenditures, adhering to budget guidelines and optimizing resource use.
• Contribute actively to a positive client experience and support inter‑departmental outcomes.
• Maintain strong stakeholder relationships and manage key communications.

Required profile

• Professional Nurse qualification.
• Postgraduate Diploma in Health Services Management or an accredited management qualification, or 5 years of leadership experience in a hospital with a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing for specialist units.
• Minimum of 5 years professional nursing experience in a hospital setting.
• At least 2 years of leadership experience within a hospital environment.
