About the role

The National Department of Health offers a 24‑month graduate internship in the Chief Directorate of Trauma, Violence and EMS, based in Pretoria. The programme aims to give unemployed South African graduates practical experience in public health regulation and laboratory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate import and export permit programmes in line with regulations.
• Audit microbiology laboratories for Department of Health registration.
• Monitor biosafety and biosecurity requirements.
• Register and audit tissue banks and stem cell banks.
• Respond to enquiries from the clinical trial industry, health research sector and postgraduate students.

Required profile

• Grade 12 certificate.
• National Diploma or Degree (NQF Level 6) in Microbiology, Biotechnology or related health sciences.
• Unemployed and no prior participation in an internship programme.
• Strong written and verbal communication, attention to detail and analytical ability.
