Tunnel Superintendent – Polihali Transfer Tunnel

About the role

The Tunnel Superintendent will lead the construction of the 38 km Polihali water transfer tunnel, linking Polihali Dam to the Katse Reservoir as part of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project Phase II. This senior position requires overseeing all aspects of tunnel boring machine (TBM) operations and ensuring the delivery of a high‑quality, safe tunnel.

Key responsibilities

• Direct and supervise all on‑site TBM activities for the Polihali Transfer Tunnel.
• Coordinate with project engineers, contractors, and stakeholders to maintain schedule and budget.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and quality requirements.
• Manage installation of precast concrete segmental lining, including bolted and gasketed segments.
• Monitor progress, report performance metrics, and resolve technical issues promptly.

Required profile

• Fluent in reading, writing and speaking English.
• Minimum 20 years experience in TBM tunnel construction.
• At least 15 years experience as a Tunnel Superintendent.
• Minimum 5 years experience in hard‑rock tunnelling with fully‑shielded TBMs (single or double shield).
• Proven experience on tunnels of similar size and length using precast concrete segmental lining.
