Transport Controller – Durban

About the role

An established freight forwarding and logistics company is seeking a dynamic Transport Controller for its Durban operations. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys fast‑paced transport management, understands the Port of Durban, and wants to build a long‑term career in a progressive logistics environment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate local container transport, collections and deliveries to/from the Port of Durban, depots, warehouses and customer sites.
• Monitor transport schedules, proactively manage delays and operational issues.
• Work closely with transporters, drivers, shipping lines, terminals, depots and internal teams.
• Manage NAVIS bookings and terminal appointments, track container movements and ensure timely deliveries.
• Monitor empty‑container returns to minimise detention, demurrage and storage costs.
• Communicate transport progress and exceptions to customers and internal stakeholders.
• Coordinate documentation and operational requirements for container movements.
• Assist with transport costing, supplier coordination and administrative tasks.
• Maintain accurate transport records and system updates.

Required profile

• Previous experience in transport operations within freight forwarding, clearing, or logistics.
• Practical knowledge of the Port of Durban and container transport processes.
• Strong organisational, communication and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple movements simultaneously.
• Commercial awareness with a focus on service quality and cost control.
