Trade Support Specialist

About the role

A prominent financial institution in Johannesburg is looking for a Trade Support Specialist to join its technology team. The role keeps the electronic trading and market-data platforms running smoothly, working closely with trading desks, internal technology departments and external vendors and exchanges. It suits someone who combines technical expertise with a good knowledge of financial markets.

Key responsibilities

• Provide Level 1 and Level 2 support for electronic trading and market-data platforms, diagnosing and fixing production issues across application, server, database, network and integration layers.
• Troubleshoot exchange connectivity, FIX sessions, order routing, trade execution and market-data services; administer access, user entitlements, trading sessions and reference data.
• Monitor system health, set up alerts and build dashboards, and write scripts to automate repetitive tasks.
• Own incidents from diagnosis to root cause analysis and resolution, and support production changes, upgrades, patches and releases.
• Work with vendors on incidents and defects, and support technology risk, audit and regulatory compliance.
• Help onboard new platforms and migrations, and keep support documentation up to date.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Finance or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in a technology or production support environment.
• Prior exposure to trading systems or financial markets technology is an advantage.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, calm under pressure, clear communication and a proactive approach to improvement.

Required skills

• Electronic trading systems, FIX protocol, Linux/Unix, SQL and networking basics.
• Scripting, automation and monitoring tools.
• Cloud platforms and infrastructure, access management, cybersecurity and operational controls are valued.
