Structural Design Engineer (Professional Engineer)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Professional Structural Engineer to join our Cape Town design office. The role involves leading a structural engineering design team, delivering design solutions for infrastructure and building projects, and acting as the primary liaison with clients, contractors and other stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in an established structural engineering design office.
• Plan, identify and design structural components for infrastructure and building projects.
• Prepare comprehensive reports for all project stages, from inception and feasibility studies through design development, tendering, procurement and close‑out.
• Manage contracts and projects, including client and contractor interaction, progress meetings, payment certificates and claims handling.
• Supervise junior staff, reviewing drawings, designs and reports.
• Develop tender documentation, including specifications, bills of quantities and drawings.
• Engage in client liaison and business development activities.

Required profile

• BEng or BSc degree in Civil Engineering.
• Registered Professional Engineer (PrEng) with ECSA – non‑negotiable.
• 8–10 years of post‑graduate experience in structural engineering.
• Proven experience with GCC, JBCC, NEC3 and PROCSA contracts and claims.
• Strong report writing and project management skills.
• Excellent organisational, leadership, communication and negotiation abilities.
• Pro‑active, self‑starter attitude.
