About the role

Transnet is offering a structured apprenticeship for aspiring welders at multiple sites across South Africa. The programme develops practical welding skills and prepares you to become a qualified artisan.

Key responsibilities

Plan and prepare work sites, including equipment, tools, consumables and materials.
Use hand tools, power tools and measuring tools safely and correctly.
Manufacture, assemble and modify components and assemblies.
Inspect, test and commission installations and assemblies.
Maintain and repair equipment, control systems and installations.

Required profile

Relevant qualification: N2‑N6 certificate with Trade Theory, Engineering Science and Mathematics, or NCV Level 4 with trade theory and Mathematics, or Technical Grade 12 with Mathematics, Physical Science and trade theory.
Pass in Mathematics (≥50%).
Age between 18 and 30 years.
South African citizenship.
Must not already hold a trade certificate (Red Seal).

Required skills

Proficiency with hand tools.
Proficiency with power tools.
Proficiency with measuring tools.
