Staff Nurse – Theatre & CSSD (Grades 1‑3)

About the role

The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is seeking Staff Nurses (Grades 1‑3) for the Theatre and Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) at Stellenbosch Hospital. The role involves delivering safe, effective nursing care in a high‑volume surgical environment and supporting the sterilisation services that underpin patient safety.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement basic patient care plans.
• Provide basic clinical nursing care in theatre and CSSD settings.
• Utilise physical and financial resources efficiently.
• Maintain professional growth, ethical standards and self‑development.

Required profile

• Qualification that permits registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Staff Nurse.
• Registration with SANC as a Staff Nurse.
• Experience: Grade 1 – none; Grade 2 – minimum 10 years; Grade 3 – minimum 20 years of recognised nursing experience after registration.
• Willingness to work day and night shifts, weekends, public holidays and overtime, and to work in all wards.
• Good communication and interpersonal relationship skills.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and Department of Health policies.
