Sous Chef – Support Kitchen Operations

About the role

Ba-Phalaborwa Golf Club is seeking two experienced and passionate Sous Chefs to support kitchen operations and assist the Head Chef in delivering high‑quality food and an excellent dining experience. As the second‑in‑command, the Sous Chef will help manage daily kitchen activities, supervise staff, maintain food quality and hygiene, and contribute to effective stock and cost control.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef with daily kitchen management and smooth operation.
• Supervise, support, and mentor kitchen staff.
• Prepare and oversee the preparation of high‑quality meals.
• Ensure food is prepared and presented according to standards and recipes.
• Maintain high standards of food hygiene, health and safety, and kitchen cleanliness.
• Monitor food quality, portion sizes, and presentation.
• Monitor stock levels and communicate requirements to the Head Chef.
• Assist with stocktakes, inventory control, food costing, and minimising waste.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / Matric and a 1‑year Diploma in Culinary Skills or Cookery; a 3‑year Diploma or Degree in Culinary Arts is advantageous.
• Previous experience in a senior kitchen role such as Sous Chef or Head Chef, preferably in a hotel, lodge, restaurant or golf club environment.
