Site Manager – Drill & Blasting

About the role

The Site Manager – Drill & Blasting will lead all drilling and blasting activities at our Malelane operation. You will ensure safe, compliant, and efficient execution of blast plans while supporting overall mine production targets.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day drilling and blasting operations on site.
• Conduct daily compliance inspections of drill and blast blocks.
• Implement drill and blast plans in line with mine planning.
• Oversee workplace safety, explosives handling, storage and transport protocols.
• Monitor quality control, assess blast outcomes, fragmentation and environmental impact.
• Prepare weekly and monthly operational reports.
• Lead, mentor and train a team of drilling and blasting personnel.
• Assist the PM Department with recruitment, onboarding, payroll and disciplinary actions.
• Ensure equipment maintenance and accurate record‑keeping.
• Travel to other sites as required and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Blasting, Mining or Civil Engineering.
• DMRE Opencast Blasting Ticket and MQA Surface Rock Breaking Certificate.
• 5‑7 years drilling and blasting experience in mining.
• Minimum 2 years managing drill and blasting teams (40+ employees).
• Basic knowledge of Sandvik Di550 and Di650 drill rigs.
• Experience with electronic and pyrotechnic initiation systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong planning, multi‑tasking and problem‑solving abilities.
