Laboratory Supervisor

About the role

The Laboratory Supervisor will oversee laboratory testing, ensure accuracy and timeliness, manage daily lab activities, and lead technicians to meet quality and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure all testing is performed accurately and promptly according to specified test methods.
• Review, verify and authorize lab test results and compile required reports.
• Manage daily laboratory activities, housekeeping, and equipment calibration.
• Track individual KPIs, arrange training for technicians, and conduct task observations for competency.
• Implement corrective actions for non‑conformances and ensure compliance with health and safety policies.
• Maintain the laboratory quality system and delegate daily tasks to technicians.
• Compile management reports at specified intervals and arrange external lab testing when required.
• Assist production managers and clients to resolve material issues and provide technical support.

Required profile

• Matric / Grade 12 (relevant tertiary qualifications advantageous).
• Valid unendorsed RSA driver’s licence.
• In‑depth knowledge of quality testing procedures and specifications.
• Excellent attention to detail, accuracy and problem‑solving skills.
• Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel, and relevant laboratory information management systems.
• Medically fit for laboratory work, including ability to lift heavy weights.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational and time‑management abilities.
• Ability to follow structured processes, multitask and work under pressure.
