Shuttle Service Driver

About the role

The Shuttle Service Driver is responsible for transporting staff and students between peripheral areas and the central campus of Stellenbosch University on a daily schedule. The role supports the university’s Integrated Transport Plan by providing a reliable, safe, and sustainable shuttle service.

Key responsibilities

• Operate shuttle vehicles according to the daily timetable, covering peripheral to central campus routes.
• Complete daily trip records and perform related administrative tasks.
• Ensure full compliance with traffic laws, university policies, and safety procedures.
• Maintain vehicle safety, cleanliness, and roadworthiness through routine inspections and reporting of defects.
• Enforce passenger safety and respond appropriately to emergencies or incidents.
• Act as a liaison between drivers and management, facilitating effective communication.
• Coordinate driver schedules, leave, and route coverage to guarantee uninterrupted service.
• Handle passenger queries, escalating issues when necessary, and promote a positive shuttle environment.
• Assist with ad‑hoc operational tasks such as vehicle transport, parking office support, and basic office duties.

Required profile

• Valid driver’s licence appropriate for shuttle vehicles.
• Strong knowledge of traffic regulations and university safety policies.
• Ability to perform routine vehicle inspections and report defects.
• Good communication skills to interact with passengers, drivers, and management.
• Reliability and punctuality to adhere to scheduled routes.
