Shift Supervisor - Clinker and Cement Manufacturing

About the role

Afrimat Industries (Pty) Ltd in Lichtenburg is looking for an experienced, results-driven Production Shift Supervisor to join its Production Department. The supervisor is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the clinker and cement manufacturing process during the assigned shift, ensuring production targets, quality standards, safety requirements and operational objectives are met. The post reports directly to the Production Foreman.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure safe and efficient plant operations during the shift and conduct daily Green Area Meetings.
• Manage and supervise Process Operators and Plant Patrollers, and issue work instructions to reclaiming, kiln and milling teams.
• Monitor production performance, ensure shift targets are achieved and compile accurate end-of-shift reports covering production variances, downtime and action plans.
• Drive process optimisation, respond to process upsets and liaise with Engineering on equipment failures and maintenance.
• Ensure equipment condition monitoring and first-line inspections, and manage raw material handling, processing and stock levels.
• Ensure compliance with quality specifications, material mixing instructions and all safety, health, environmental and operational requirements.
• Manage contractors and their labour resources, support competency development, planned job observations and on-the-job training, and coach and mentor team members.
• Conduct performance reviews, maintain Individual Development Plans, and support incident investigations and corrective actions.
• Conduct end-of-shift stock assessments and variance investigations, and ensure compliance with Environmental Licence conditions.
• Facilitate start-of-shift production meetings, capture production data and works orders accurately, and support Engineering, Quarry and Quality Assurance.

Required profile

• Grade 12; Diploma/HND in Process, Production, Chemistry or equivalent.
• At least 5 years' experience in clinker and cement manufacturing, including kiln, cement milling and raw material processing.
• Supervisory experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment, with proven people leadership and team management skills.
• Valid driver's licence.
• Advantageous: certificate in Supervisory Management or a Leadership Development Programme, and a mobile equipment and plant operation competency certificate.

Required skills

• Knowledge of clinker and cement production processes and production control and process optimisation.
• Industrial Control Systems (SCADA/Siemens) and Microsoft Office.
• ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 knowledge; Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993) and environmental legislation.
• Root cause analysis, risk assessment, quality, stock and risk management, and continuous improvement.
