Shift Electrician

About the role

The Shift Electrician provides electrical maintenance and operational support for a packaging plant and silo operations. Working on a rotating shift, the role involves troubleshooting equipment, managing work orders and ensuring compliance with safety and housekeeping standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine and corrective electrical maintenance on plant and silo equipment.
• Diagnose faults and conduct root‑cause analysis for all electrical systems.
• Manage work orders, record keeping and update/create electrical drawings.
• Recommend and implement improvements to prevent breakdowns.
• Ensure adherence to plant safety standards, OHS regulations and SABS electrical standards.

Required profile

• Matriculated/N3 electrical qualification and qualified electrical artisan (Trade Test).
• Ability to register as an installation electrician with a valid Wireman’s licence within six months.
• At least three years of experience in an industrial environment, preferably sugar refining.
• Knowledge of OHS Act and SABS standards for electrical installations, maintenance schedules, variable speed drives and soft‑start devices.
• Strong problem‑solving ability, good communication skills and capacity to work with minimal supervision.
