Senior Operations Controller - Freight Forwarding

About the role

Africa Global Logistics South Africa (AGL) is recruiting a Senior Operations Controller (freight forwarding operations) for its Middleburg Heights office. The role coordinates daily transport operations so that loads are planned efficiently, vehicles are used well, customers are served and deliveries arrive on time. It is a permanent, full-time position.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and process customer transport orders and bookings accurately and on time, capturing them in the TMS
• Plan and allocate loads to company vehicles, drivers and approved subcontractors, optimising vehicle utilisation and route planning
• Coordinate daily load schedules and arrange special delivery requests, including the PO process
• Monitor vehicles, drivers and shipments, manage delays and breakdowns, and keep drivers and subcontractors informed
• Follow up on delayed deliveries and coordinate on-route breakdowns with mechanics and workshops
• Verify proof of delivery (POD) and ensure operational files follow the process flows
• Collect and control documents such as commercial invoices and packing lists, and produce transport documents
• Monitor vehicle service schedules, fuel and driver costs, and driver behaviour and overtime compliance
• Manage SLA, process and activity KPIs, perform invoicing and cost reporting, and report incidents to the BU supervisor or manager
• Prepare operational reports, assist management with efficient use of vehicles and drivers, and carry out other reasonable delegated tasks

Required profile

• Matric
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in transport, fleet coordination or a similar operational environment
• 3-year qualification in Logistics, Transport or a similar field
• Knowledge of route planning, fleet management and TMS
• Ability to work under pressure and manage teams
• Knowledge of the LRA and NBCRFLI main agreement
