Junior Operations Controller - Freight Forwarding

About the role

Africa Global Logistics South Africa (AGL) is recruiting a Junior Operations Controller for its freight forwarding business in Middleburg Heights. The role coordinates client shipments from start to finish and supports the Senior Transport Controller with load planning, vehicle utilisation, customer service and on-time deliveries. It is a permanent position.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and process customer transport orders and bookings accurately and on time, capturing them in the TMS
• Plan and allocate loads to company vehicles, drivers and approved subcontractors, and coordinate daily load schedules
• Arrange special delivery requests, including the PO process, and monitor vehicles, drivers and shipments, tracking delays and breakdowns
• Maintain regular contact with drivers and subcontractors, follow up on delayed deliveries and handle on-route breakdowns with mechanics and workshops
• Verify proof of delivery (POD) and ensure operational files comply with SOPs, collecting documents such as commercial invoices and packing lists
• Monitor vehicle service schedules, driver behaviour and overtime compliance, and track driver time and attendance
• Meet and improve SLA, process and activity KPIs, and perform invoicing on transport files
• Report incidents to the BU supervisor/manager, prepare operational reports and assist management with efficient use of vehicles, drivers and resources

Required profile

• Matric
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in transport, fleet coordination or a similar operational environment
• Relevant qualification is an advantage
• Knowledge of the LRA and NBCRFLI main agreement

Required skills

• Knowledge of route planning, fleet management and TMS
• Strong computer literacy and administrative skills
• Ability to work under pressure and manage drivers
