Senior MS SQL Developer

About the role

A global investment advisory firm, represented by Parvana, is hiring a Senior MS SQL Developer in Cape Town on a permanent basis. The role is hybrid or remote, and the client offers daily office attendance or a hybrid in-office / remote arrangement. The client invests heavily in employee wellness and benefits, and its business relies on automation, AI and R&D rather than legacy software.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and optimise complex SQL Server database solutions.
• Write efficient, scalable and maintainable T-SQL, including stored procedures, views, functions and triggers.
• Analyse execution plans, troubleshoot performance issues and apply indexing, partitioning and query refactoring.
• Design relational OLTP and analytical data models, and separate operational and reporting workloads.
• Enforce naming, design and documentation standards, lead code reviews and mentor junior developers.
• Work with backend developers, BI teams and business analysts, and support ETL/ELT pipelines.

Required profile

• 6+ years of hands-on T-SQL development, stored procedures, views, functions and execution plan analysis.
• Proven track record fixing performance bottlenecks such as locking, blocking, deadlocks and IO/memory issues in large SQL Server environments.
• Deep knowledge of indexing and table partitioning; normalised relational modelling (3NF/OLTP) and dimensional modelling (star/snowflake) are a strong plus.

Required skills

• SQL Server and T-SQL
• ETL/ELT and data pipeline tools (SSIS, Azure Data Factory, dbt) are highly advantageous
• Azure SQL, Git, Azure DevOps, CI/CD for databases or BI tools (Power BI, Tableau) are a plus
