Senior Medical Writer – Remote (South Africa)

About the role

MMS, an award‑winning clinical research organization, is seeking an experienced Senior Medical Writer to join its South African team. This home‑based position allows you to work from any location in South Africa while contributing to high‑impact regulatory and clinical documentation for pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical‑device clients.

Key responsibilities

• Critically evaluate and interpret medical literature to support study design, statistical significance, and scientific rigor.
• Write and edit a wide range of clinical development documents, including protocols, investigator’s brochures, clinical study reports, consent forms, safety and efficacy summaries, and regulatory modules (2.7.1‑2.7.4, 2.5).
• Prepare presentation materials and manuscripts for medical journals.
• Maintain timelines, manage workflow, and ensure high‑quality internal and external customer service.
• Use client templates and style guides expertly, and coordinate directly with clients on project facets.
• Mentor junior medical writers and other project team members.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of regulatory and clinical medical writing experience, with at least 3 years in the pharmaceutical industry.
• Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. in a scientific, medical or clinical discipline.
• Extensive oncology experience and proven lead‑author experience on clinical study protocols.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage writing teams under aggressive timelines.
