Senior Marine Design Engineer – Drawing Office Supervisor

About the role

We are seeking a senior marine design engineer to lead our multidisciplinary drawing office in Cape Town. The role combines hands‑on technical work on composite structures and deck systems with leadership of a team delivering high‑performance luxury vessels.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and manage a team of engineers and designers within the drawing office.
• Plan, allocate tasks and conduct drawing reviews to ensure on‑time project delivery.
• Produce and review detailed 3D models and 2D production drawings using SolidWorks (or equivalent CAD software).
• Engineer composite structures and deck components for manufacture.
• Collaborate with naval architects, structural engineers, suppliers and external design partners.
• Ensure designs meet industry standards, technical specifications and regulatory requirements.
• Provide technical input and innovative solutions throughout the design process.

Required profile

• Degree in Naval Architecture, Yacht Design, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 7 years experience in the marine, yacht‑building or ship‑building industry.
• Strong SolidWorks (or equivalent 3D CAD) experience and proven ability to produce manufacturing drawings.
• Knowledge of composite engineering, structural design and deck outfitting.
• Practical sailing experience is essential.
• Fluent English communication skills.
