Senior Java Engineer – Cape Town

About the role

As a Senior Java Engineer you will work on consulting and software development projects for major German customers such as AXA, BMW, Deutsche Bahn and ZDF. You will design, develop and implement solutions that embed AI methods—including large‑language models, agent‑based frameworks, code generation and test automation—throughout the software lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and deliver enterprise Java applications using AI‑enhanced, agentic methods.
• Create and maintain project environments, including rule files, context documentation, MCP server configurations and scaffolding that optimise AI collaboration.
• Review and validate AI‑generated code, identifying hallucinations, failure modes and quality indicators.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor team members and share knowledge through training sessions.
• Contribute to all phases of the software engineering lifecycle using agile methodologies.

Required profile

• University degree in Computer Science or a comparable discipline.
• At least 8 years of professional software development experience.
• Enjoy working with agile methods such as Scrum or Design Thinking.
• Self‑independent, proactive and able to contribute actively to team success.
