Senior Java Engineer – Agentic AI Engineering (Cape Town)

About the role

You will join Accso’s consulting team in Cape Town, delivering software solutions for large German customers such as AXA, BMW, Deutsche Bahn and ZDF. The position combines enterprise‑grade Java development with agentic AI techniques (LLMs, code‑generation agents, test‑automation) across the whole software lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement enterprise Java applications using agentic AI methods.
• Develop project environments, including rule files, context documentation, MCP server configurations and scaffolding that optimise AI collaboration.
• Review and validate AI‑generated code, recognising hallucinations and quality issues.
• Mentor team members in transitioning from traditional to agentic development workflows.
• Contribute to methodology development and share best practices.
• Collaborate with clients on consulting and software development projects.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience with the Java ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Security, Spring Data, Quarkus or Micronaut).
• Hands‑on experience rebuilding development workflows around AI agents and achieving measurable productivity gains.
• Strong understanding of modern software architecture: microservices, event‑driven systems, DDD and CQRS.
• Experience with cloud platforms, containerisation and DevOps practices.
• Comfortable in client‑facing or consulting roles.
