Java Engineer – Cape Town

About the role

We are looking for a Java Engineer to join our Cape Town team, working on innovative software projects for German and South African clients. You will apply AI‑agent‑based development methods to deliver high‑quality backend solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Solve challenging software engineering problems across diverse projects.
• Design, develop and implement robust backend services, REST APIs and integration layers using object‑oriented principles.
• Write clean, testable, efficient Java code and ensure thorough testing and debugging.
• Participate in code reviews, performance tuning and CI/CD practices to raise engineering standards.
• Utilise technologies such as Java, JavaScript, Spring, Kotlin, Maven, Gradle and JUnit.
• Develop project environments, rule files and MCP server configurations to optimise AI collaboration.

Required profile

• University degree in Computer Science or a comparable discipline.
• At least 5 years of professional software development experience.
• Experience with agile methods like Scrum or Design Thinking.
• Proactive, pragmatic and team‑oriented with strong communication skills.
