Senior Java Developer – Backend Services

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Java Developer to join a high‑performing engineering team in Cape Town. You will design and deliver enterprise‑grade backend solutions, work with modern cloud platforms, and help shape a strong engineering culture.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Spring frameworks.
• Lead end‑to‑end delivery of complex features and systems.
• Mentor junior developers and promote best practices in coding, testing and design.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and ensure effective delivery cycles.
• Collaborate with product, design and engineering teams to deliver high‑quality solutions.
• Design and optimise database schemas and write efficient SQL queries.
• Identify opportunities to improve system performance and code quality.
• Support deployment, monitoring and reliability of applications.

Required profile

• Relevant degree or diploma in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Proven experience as a Senior Software Engineer or similar role.
• Strong experience in enterprise software development and Agile environments.
• Analytical mindset with strong problem‑solving abilities.
• Passion for continuous learning and innovation.
