Senior Financial Accountant

About the role

We are seeking a detail‑oriented Senior Financial Accountant to join a well‑established organisation in Johannesburg North. The role offers ownership of core accounting functions, leadership of junior staff, and the chance to influence financial reporting and process improvements.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and maintain the General Ledger (GL) ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Prepare and review balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Compile, analyse and present monthly management accounts.
• Oversee, support and develop two Bookkeepers.
• Assist with month‑end and year‑end reporting cycles.
• Utilise ERP systems and accounting software for efficient processing.
• Analyse financial data to provide meaningful insights.
• Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with policies.
• Support ad‑hoc finance projects and drive process‑improvement initiatives.
• Monitor accounting transactions and meet reporting deadlines.

Required profile

• BCom Accounting qualification.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a financial accounting role.
• Proven experience preparing management accounts and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Experience with ERP systems and accounting software; SAP knowledge is a plus.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Strong understanding of financial reporting principles and accounting processes.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to lead junior staff.
