Senior Electrical Engineer - Data Centre

About the role

AECOM, a global infrastructure consulting firm, is recruiting a Senior Electrical Engineer for its data centre practice in Centurion. The role covers electrical engineering and design across all project phases, from concept design through to construction support, client relations and mentoring junior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare schedules, estimates, progress reports, procurement and cost estimates for the electrical scope, including equipment and construction costs.
• Design electrical networks for LV and MV (up to 132 kV), including load lists, single-line and network diagrams, schematic diagrams, hazardous area classification, fault level calculations, motor protection schemes, cable routing and sizing, lighting calculations and earthing design.
• Specify electrical equipment such as switchgear, distribution boards, MCCs, transformers, motors, VSDs, UPSs, filters, BMS and communication systems, and prepare purchase specifications, RFQs and tender documentation.
• Perform system studies (short circuit, load flow, protection coordination) and design interfaces with PLCs, DCS and building management systems, including serial communications (Profibus, fieldbus, Ethernet).
• Manage vendor inspections, factory acceptance testing and switchgear contractor work, and support construction and commissioning teams.
• Prepare project scheduling, bar charts, progress and quality control, and handle contract claims and re-measurement.
• Mentor junior engineers, help set up standard engineering documentation, develop client relations and assist in preparing tenders.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience in the built environment after obtaining a qualification.
• Bachelor of Science or Engineering from an accredited university; Master's degree preferred.
• Registered as an engineer with ECSA.
