Security Engineer

About the role

We are a fast‑growing African payments orchestration platform looking for a Security Engineer to own our defensive posture end‑to‑end. You will build detection and response capabilities, harden software delivery pipelines, and leverage AI to stay ahead of emerging threats.

Key responsibilities

• Secure data, endpoints, and networks across the organisation.
• Prepare, monitor, and respond to security incidents.
• Design, implement and maintain SIEM solutions.
• Conduct penetration testing, threat hunting and vulnerability remediation.
• Develop and automate threat detection and remediation workflows, including AI‑driven automation.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure secure architecture and implementation.
• Create, improve and enforce internal security standards, policies and industry‑specific requirements (PCI, ISO 27001, etc.).
• Lead internal security audits and manage third‑party vendor risk assessments.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related STEM field (preferred from a top‑tier university).
• 8+ years of total professional experience, including 4+ years in a security‑focused role.
• 4+ years of experience in software engineering, DevOps or platform engineering.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and meticulous attention to detail.
• Proven ability to explain security controls to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Experience with security standards such as ISO 27001, PCI DSS, CIS Top 18, OWASP.
• Relevant certifications (OSCP, CISSP, CISM, SSCP) are a plus.

Required skills

• SIEM implementation and management.
• Pen‑testing and threat‑hunting techniques.

• Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform) and IAM policy management.
• Knowledge of security frameworks: ISO 27001, PCI DSS, CIS Top 18, OWASP.
• Familiarity with certifications such as OSCP, CISSP, CISM, SSCP.
