SCADA Engineer

About the role

As a SCADA Engineer at SOLASOLA, you will design, commission and maintain SCADA systems for utility‑scale solar PV and battery storage plants. The role focuses on delivering high‑accuracy, highly available data and control functionality to ensure efficient plant operation.

Key responsibilities

• Work with the commissioning team on utility solar PV projects, develop commissioning plans and lead Eskom signalling compliance tests.
• Design physical and logical network architecture for solar PV power plants, including SDN implementations for security and micro‑segmentation.
• Develop signal and IP lists, configure and commission primary and secondary plant devices such as RTUs and HMIs.
• Build, optimise and maintain SCADA and HMI platforms using Ignition (Inductive Automation) with modern visualisation modules.
• Establish DevOps practices for SCADA deployment – version control, automated testing and containerisation.
• Architect and manage time‑series databases and apply industrial communication protocols for troubleshooting and design.
• Produce network/logic drawings, signal schematics, coding manuals and functional testing procedures.
• Coordinate with vendors, stay updated on industry standards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Required profile

• Strong background in SCADA system design and commissioning for utility‑scale renewable energy projects.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and with external vendors.
• Ability to produce clear technical documentation and share knowledge with colleagues.
