Safety Officer

About the role

ScaleSource Talent Solutions is seeking an experienced Safety Officer for a well‑established manufacturing operation in Pretoria North. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and fostering a proactive safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct regular workplace inspections to identify hazards and verify OHS compliance.
• Perform risk assessments and implement preventative safety measures.
• Investigate incidents and accidents, compile reports and analyse safety trends.
• Maintain and align health and safety policies with legislation.
• Identify unsafe acts or conditions and ensure corrective actions are taken.
• Coordinate and deliver health and safety training and awareness initiatives.
• Carry out internal safety audits and ensure legal and company standards are met.
• Oversee safe handling, storage and disposal of hazardous substances and waste.
• Maintain safety registers, records and incident documentation.
• Prepare safety reports and statistics for management and work with leadership to improve safety practices.

Required profile

• Grade 12 completed.
• SAMTRAC or similar qualification.
• Training in HIRA, incident investigation and First Aid Level 2.
• Proven experience as a Safety Officer in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Strong knowledge of OHS legislation and safety management systems.
• Excellent investigation, reporting and communication abilities.
• Ability to promote and enforce a proactive safety culture.
