Registered Nurse – Ward (Somerset West)

About the role

We are seeking a Registered Nurse to provide safe, cost‑effective, high‑quality care to patients in a ward setting in Somerset West. The role involves planning, delivering and supervising nursing care in line with South African Nursing Council and Department of Health standards.

Key responsibilities

• Support patients on admission and throughout the post‑operative period.
• Monitor physiological parameters and provide appropriate treatment until recovery from anaesthesia or surgery.
• Assess patients for discharge readiness and evaluate care at each phase.
• Contribute to holistic patient care, infection prevention and health promotion.
• Maintain a therapeutic, clean and safe environment free from medico‑legal hazards.
• Ensure accurate documentation, audit health records and comply with stock control procedures.
• Mentor and supervise junior healthcare providers and support staff.
• Facilitate a learning environment, wound inspection, patient education on post‑op wound care, and medication prescription liaison.

Required profile

• Grade 12 or equivalent NQF level 4 qualification.
• Diploma in General Nursing.
• Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
• Minimum 5 years experience as a Registered Nurse.
• Essential post‑operative and surgical experience with recent clinical exposure.
• Experience in a private hospital environment is advantageous.

Required skills

• BLS (Basic Life Support) / CPR.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support).
• Wound care expertise.
• Stock control and inventory management.
