Proposals Engineer – Durban (R25k‑R35k/month)

About the role

We are seeking a proactive Proposals Engineer to join a leading industrial manufacturing and energy company in Durban. You will craft technically sound, cost‑effective proposals for water‑tube boilers and related plant, supporting sales and project delivery across sectors such as sugar, paper, petrochemical and other industrial markets.

Key responsibilities

• Review customer RFQs, define scopes of work and compile comprehensive technical and commercial tender documents.
• Prepare accurate cost and time estimates, issue and evaluate supplier quotations.
• Collaborate with sales, internal departments, suppliers and customers to develop winning strategies and secure orders.
• Conduct site visits and boiler inspections alongside senior engineers.
• Review contracts and purchase orders (including FIDIC and GCC terms) and hand over secured orders to the project delivery team.

Required profile

• BTech/BSc or National Diploma in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (minimum).
• At least 3 years of experience in a project‑based engineering environment, specifically with industrial water‑tube boilers.
• Hands‑on exposure to drawing offices, sales, projects or contracts.
• Valid driver’s licence and reliable personal vehicle.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word and MS Project.
• Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings.
• Strong cost‑estimation and budgeting capabilities.
• Knowledge of FIDIC and GCC contractual terms.
• Understanding of boiler components and industrial water‑tube boiler systems.
