Project Manager - Diesel Generator Installation

About the role

A fixed-term contract (12-18 months) is sought for an experienced Project Manager / Construction Manager in Johannesburg to lead industrial construction projects, with a strong focus on diesel generator installations, commissioning, testing and handover. The role covers project planning, contract administration, construction execution, budget control, risk management, stakeholder engagement and quality and HSE compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and schedule projects using MS Project, including baseline programmes, two-week lookaheads and recovery plans
• Administer FIDIC contracts (Yellow Book 1999) and other arrangements, handling notices, variations, claims, EOT and disputes
• Manage diesel generator systems, including enclosures, fuel, exhaust, cooling, controls and synchronisation, and coordinate technical interfaces
• Oversee daily construction, subcontractors, suppliers and site resources, and monitor quality and workmanship
• Manage budgets, cost reports, cash flow, payment schedules and revenue recognition
• Identify and mitigate technical, commercial, contractual, programme and HSE risks
• Manage relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers and OEMs, and set up RACI matrices and communication protocols
• Ensure compliance with South African HSE legislation, and implement quality plans, ITPs and IST
• Coordinate procurement, track long-lead items and review GA, structural, electrical and enclosure drawings
• Plan FAT, SAT, load bank and synchronisation tests, and coordinate completion documentation and handover

Required profile

• Extensive experience in industrial construction and project management, including generator installation and commissioning
• Sound knowledge of FIDIC contract administration, particularly the FIDIC Yellow Book 1999
• Strong technical expertise, commercial awareness and ability to manage multidisciplinary teams
