Project Engineer – Mechanical Design & CAD (Cape Town)

About the role

Flybox is seeking a versatile Project Engineer to join its fast‑moving global team. Based in Cape Town and working remotely, you will bridge design and execution for cutting‑edge Black Soldier Fly waste‑management systems, ensuring projects move from concept to commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Mechanical Design & CAD: Produce 3D models, assemblies and manufacturing‑ready 2D drawings in SolidWorks for modular systems, HVAC integrations and processing layouts.
• Project Management: Oversee engineering projects end‑to‑end, track milestones, manage budgets and coordinate with international suppliers.
• System Integration: Assist in designing and optimising HVAC, control and mechanical systems for BSF processing facilities.
• Global Deployment: Travel to international sites for installation oversight and final commissioning.
• Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Work closely with a distributed team to understand biological and mechanical processes and improve future designs.

Required profile

• Located in Cape Town with a reliable remote setup and stable internet.
• 3–6 years of relevant engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field (master’s a plus).
• Excellent communication skills for collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
• Proven ability to manage multiple timelines, budgets and stakeholders.
• Start‑up mindset: comfortable in a fast‑paced environment and ready to roll up sleeves.
