Process Engineer I – Process Optimization & Safety

About the role

The Process Engineer I will support the process engineering strategy for the Demin value chain at Sasol’s Sasolburg site. The role focuses on meeting production targets, providing technical support, and driving continuous improvement while ensuring safe and reliable operation of the plant.

Key responsibilities

• Define and monitor the Optimum Working Operating Window (OWOW) and ensure the unit operates within agreed envelopes.
• Identify and implement improvement opportunities to reduce losses and enhance plant reliability.
• Provide technical input for test‑runs, trials, studies and daily assurance processes.
• Support process safety management studies, compliance plans and equipment inspections.
• Analyse performance data, translate loss accounting into actionable improvement plans, and report heat‑maps and integrity concerns.
• Assist with shutdown planning, equipment integrity checks and post‑shutdown recommendations.
• Monitor energy usage and suggest measures to improve efficiency and reduce unit cost.
• Contribute to Value Production Planning (VPP) by monitoring yields and risk of deviation.
