Process Development Technologist

About the role

The Process Development Technologist will bridge formulation and R&D process development to ensure Home Care products are scalable, robust and ready for factory production. Working within Unilever’s Home Care R&D team, you will translate approved formulations into validated manufacturing processes through scale‑up, pilot trials and factory transfer.

Key responsibilities

• Perform scale‑up studies to convert bench‑scale formulations into pilot- and factory-ready processes, defining parameters, CCPs and CQAs.
• Plan and execute experimental production runs in pilot plants and feasibility factory trials, providing go/no‑go recommendations.
• Prepare trial reports and create, validate and issue process specifications and validation documentation.
• Diagnose and resolve process deviations using engineering principles, root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with GMP, PHAROS, QMS and R&D safety standards, maintaining data integrity and audit‑ready records.
• Provide CAPEX technical input for new or modified equipment and support commissioning and qualification.
• Support local factories with technical problem solving, optimisation of process parameters and standardisation of solutions.
• Maintain process operating instructions, SOPs and update manufacturing systems (RS Batch, FOXBORO, SCADA, DFOS, SPC) in line with change control.
• Co‑lead process audits, analyse findings and ensure timely technical closure.

Required profile

• Strong technical background in process development and scale‑up.
• Experience conducting pilot‑plant trials and factory feasibility studies.
• Knowledge of GMP, PHAROS, QMS and R&D safety standards.
• Ability to perform root‑cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Familiarity with CAPEX equipment specifications and validation processes.
