Engineering Manager

About the role

The company, a well‑established food manufacturer, seeks an Engineering Manager to lead plant maintenance and optimisation across its facilities in Roodepoort, Durban and Johannesburg. You will drive equipment improvements, support a multidisciplinary maintenance team and ensure cost‑effective operations within budget.

Key responsibilities

• Manage plant safety compliance with legislation and hazardous chemical regulations.
• Schedule and oversee all maintenance activities, leading a team of multidisciplinary technicians.
• Conduct risk assessments and plan work in high‑risk areas such as high‑pressure steam, sulphuric acid and chlorine gas.
• Lead HAZOP and participate in HACCP studies.
• Coordinate project modifications, change management and construction deviations.
• Develop and implement proactive maintenance strategies and oversee complex repairs.
• Appoint subcontractors, sign off contracts and ensure documentation completeness.
• Forecast budgets, negotiate spare‑part prices and manage inventory.

Required profile

• B.Eng (Mechanical) with a Government Certificate of Competency.
• Minimum 5 years FMCG maintenance engineering experience covering mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and civil disciplines.
• Training and implementation experience in Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) or similar.
• Proven track record in plant safety, hazardous chemicals handling and compliance with OHS and environmental legislation.
