Plant Operations Manager

About the role

The Plant Operations Manager will lead a manufacturing business unit in Durban, reporting directly to the General Manager. This senior role is responsible for delivering operational excellence, financial performance, and strategic growth.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a manufacturing strategy that aligns with overall business objectives.
• Lead change initiatives and drive continuous operational improvements.
• Oversee production planning, plant projects, and contractor activities.
• Analyse production data to identify efficiency gains and cost‑saving opportunities.
• Manage new product launches, ensuring plant readiness and smooth transitions.
• Contribute to budgeting, monitor financial performance, and control CAPEX.
• Maintain strong relationships with customers and key suppliers.
• Ensure compliance with safety, health, environmental, and quality standards, including ISO accreditations.
• Lead, develop, and engage teams, handling workforce planning, recruitment, and performance management.

Required profile

• Grade 12 qualification plus an Engineering degree.
• Minimum five years of senior management experience in manufacturing.
• Proven ability to bring order to a chaotic environment and drive systematic improvements.
• Strong leadership style – assertive yet collaborative.

Required skills

• Strong financial acumen (income statement, balance sheet, ratios).
• Solid understanding of lean manufacturing principles.
• Technical and operational capability to manage complex plant processes.
